The Zuidwendinger mill was built in 1819 by the mill-makers L. B. Woldring and B. E. Sonius from Groningen, and J. E. Sonius from Hoogezand. The mill was used to drain the Zuidwending polder – a 192 hectare area of land. The mill required some restoration work in 1949, which was carried out by Mr Bremer of Adorp. An electric motor was added to the mill in 1960. The Zuidendinger Mill is open to the public, however it is best to call to make an appointment before visiting.
