The Zelendrust mill was built in 1845 by Jan Fridus Ritsema, to replace an older mill which had been destroyed by a fire in 1844. From 1856 to 1980, the mill was owned by the Hazekamp family. In 1980, it was sold to J. J. Forest, but when the Hazekamp family learned that Mr Forest was not interested in the mill, but only the mill house, they bought the mill back to restore and repair it. Today, the mill is ran on a voluntary basis. Tours are available by appointment only.
