The Windmotor 1 in Weidum is a relatively modern windmill. It was built in 1920 to an American design known as the ’Herkules Metallicus’. This design of mill is fairly rare in the Netherlands, and because of this, the Windmotor 1 is now a listed building. The mill is relatively small, with a flight of just 6 metres. The Windmotor 1 is now maintained by the Fryslan Mill foundation. The Windmotor 2 is still in use today, although it is not currently open to the public.
