The Waarland Polder Mill was built in the late 16th century, to manage the 363 hectare Geestmerambachts polder. The mill was decommissioned in 1949, when the Geestmerambachts polder was merged with three other neighbouring polders, and a large electric pumping station was built. In 1973, the mill was restored, and it is now ran on a regular basis. In 2004, a building next to the mill was converted to an exhibition centre, with information about the Dutch Water Board, and the role of windmills in Dutch History.
