The Waardenburg Polder Mill was built in 1867 to replace an older mill that had been destroyed by a fire. The mill was used to drain the ’t Broek polder, a small nature reserve which covers an area of around 120 hectares. The mill was decommissioned in 1927, when two new pumps were built to take over the area. The Waardenburg Polder Mill was restored in 1994, and now serves as a backup mill to assist the main pumps during times of extreme flooding. The mill is open to the public.
