There are currently twelve working windmills in the city of Utrecht. The Star is one of the oldest of those mills. It was built in 1739 by Jordan van der Ven and Arien van der Starren. The mill was demolished in 1982. A few years later, The Star Mill Foundation was founded. The foundation spent 1.6 million Guilders to rebuid the mill in as close to its original state as possible. The mill was re-opened in 1999 by His Royal Highness, Prince Claus. The mill is open to the public every Saturday.
