The Dorregeester Mill was built in 1896 to serve a 185 hectare part of the Schermerboezem Polder. The mill is located on a scenic open pasture on Alkmaardermeer. The Dorregeester was closed down in 1947, when an electrip pumping station was built to take over the duties of the mill. In 1975, the mill was restored by the Uitgeester Mills Foundation. Today, the mill can regularly be seen in operation, and is open to the public.
