The Bachtenaar is an historic water mill located on West Vlisterdijk in the town of Vlist. The mill was built in 1714, to replace a 15th century mill that had originally served the area. The Bachtenaar mill was originally used to drain the Bergambacht Polder. In 1926, the mill was decommissioned and replaced with a mechanical pumping station. The mill was restored in 1964, and is now open to the public. Tours of the Bachtenaar mill can be arranged upon request.
