The Slot Zuylen in Utrecht is one of the better examples of a medieval castle in Holland. It was built in the late 13th century and remained inhabited until the early 1900s. The castle was converted into a museum in 1952, and features several period rooms furnished different styles from the 17th through to 19th century. The landscaped gardens have some interesting features, including a ’snake wall’ that is used to protect southern plants from the harsh Dutch climate.
