The Slot Zeist castle in Utrecht was built between 1677 and 1687 for Willem Adriaan van Nassau. The castle has a simple brick exterior, but this is decieving. The interior is a lavish design, concieved by French architect Daniël Marot, who was also responsible for the decoration of Het Loo Palace. Many of his murals and ceiling paintings have survived to this day. The palace gardens have been re-landscaped and now serve as a park.
