The Rijn en Lek is often wrongly referred to as ’The Mill of Ruysdael’, as it is very similar in appearance to the mill which appears in the famous painting of Ruysdael. The Rijn en Lek mill was built in 1659, and was originally used to produce raw materials for local tanneries. In 1924, the mill was threatened with demolition, but it was saved by The Dutch Mill Association, who purchased the mill and restored it. Today, the mill is ran on a voluntary basis, and is open to the public every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
