The Rietveld Schröder House was built by Gerrit Rietveld in 1924. It is the only building that fully realizes the architectural principles of De Stijl. Both Rietveld and his client, Schröder felt that one had to have an active attitude to life, and this home reflects that, with every activity requiring the occupant to perform a transaction. UNESCO have placed the house on the World Heritage List as ‘an important and unique icon in Western architectural history and a masterpiece of human creativity’.
