The Torenfort To The Ossenmarkt was a part of the New Dutch Waterline. The New Dutch Waterline was built between the late 17th and mid 19th centuries, as an extension to the original Dutch Water Line. The Torenfort To The Ossenmarkt was built in 1861, and was intended to defend the neighbouring shores and the Amsterdam – Amersfoort railway. The fort was in use until 1959, and is now a national monument. It underwent extensive restoration work in 1983.
