The Museum De Cruquius is housed in a former steam pumping station. The station was constructed in 1849, and was used, in conjunction with two other pumping stations, to drain water from the Haarlemmermeer. The station was taken out of service in 1933, and the building now houses a museum devoted to steam power and the industrial heritage of the Netherlands. The museum shows how the Dutch people fought against the threat of the water, and describes the times of wind power, and the Romantic Steam Age.
