The Menkemaborg is a manor house in Uithuizen. It is surrounded by a moat, and is a very impressive building. The manor dates back to the 15th century, and is one of the few surviving mansions, or borgs, that can be traced back to the old landowning families. The manor grounds include some formal gardens that are styled in a traditional English fashion, and the manor itself has several period rooms furnished in 17th century style, with exhibits from the Groninger museum’s art and history collections.
