The Kruitmolen is an historic watermill located on Plenkerstraat in the town of Valkenburg. The mill was built in 1819, and was originally used to produce gunpowder by grinding a mixture salpeter, sulfur, and charcoal. The Kruitmolen was bought by The Lion Brewery in 1921, and converted into an electricity generating mill. The Kruitmolen is open to the public, although an appointment is usually required. Visits can be arranged by contacting the brewery.
