The Inlaatduiker aan de Vijfhuizerpolder is a UNESCO protected monument. It was built in 1889 and is a part of the defensive line which protected the area in and around Amsterdam from invasion. The line included a number of, forts, canals, and pumps that would drain water from areas around Amsterdam in times of peace, and could quickly flood those areas to make them impassable in the event of a war.
