The Cat Mill in Zaandam was built in 1781. In 1900, the mill was used for grinding chalk, and later for the grinding of coal chunks. In the Second World War, the mill was upgraded with a diesel engine. The Cat Mill was restored to working order in 1959, and is owned by the Zaansche Mill Association. The mill is open to the public every day during the Summer, and on weekends during the winter.
