The Czaar Peterhuisje is where Russian Czaar Peter the Great stayed incognito in 1697. Peter had travelled to Holland disguised as an ordinary sailor, as part of a Russian trade mission. He was travelling under the name of Peter Mikhailov, and he ran into a former employee. He swore the employee to secrecy, and stayed in his house, while working as a shipbuilder on the docks. The house now displays portraits of the Czaar, and calling cards and pennants from visiting Russian delegations.
