The Cornelia Quackhofje in Vlissingen was an eighteenth century almshouse which was founded for sailors to life in. The Hofje is located just north of the shopping precinct in Lange Zelke. It consists of 23 houses. Traditionally, hofjes are charitable institutions, usually for women only, either from a specific faith or profession. They were usually aimed at poorer people, although in the 18th century some commercial hofjes were formed, which would charge the inhabitants a small amount of rent.
