The Central Museum in Utrecht is housed in a former convent, and holds a large collection of Dutch modern art and 20th century applied art from the De Stijl group. The museum also holds displays examining the history of Utrecht, including a preserved Viking longboat dating back to around 1100. There are a number of paintings by famous Utrecht artists of the 16th century, including some by Jan van Scorel. The museum is relatively small, but covers a broad range of subjects and time periods.
