The Cathedral in Utrecht took almost three centuries to build. The nave collapsed in 1674 during a violent storm, and was never rebuilt. The choir and transepts survived, as did the tower, which remains separated from the rest of the cathedral. The interior still shows traces of the iconoclasm that spread over the country during the late 16th century, with battered altars, and a defaced Christ on a Holy Sepulcher in one of the archways.
