The Buitenmolen was built during the early 15th century, and is one of the oldest remaining working mills in the Netherlands. The mill belonged to the estate of the Duchy until 1866, when it was sold to a private owner. Since then the mill has had several owners. In 1966 the mill was in a very poor condition, and was bought by the town so that it could be restored. The mill is now used to produce a variety of grain products, and is open to the public every Saturday.
