The Barremolen is a 17th century polder mill located just north of the Leiden-Alphen railroad. The mill was built in 1661, and was originally used to drain the 385 hectare Old Groenendijksche Polder. The mill was bought by Heineken Breweries Ltd in 1971. The Barremolen is a classic 8 sided ’grondzeiler’ mill, and has large sails, with a flight of 24.3 metres. The mill is in good condition, but is no longer in active use.
