The Waterloosmolen is surrounded on all sides by water from the Kagerplassen lakes, as it stands on its own independent island. The mill was built in 1857, to replace an older polder mill that had been destroyed by a fire the previous year. The Waterloosmolen was restored in 1995, and is now owned by the Rhineland Mill Foundation. The mill is now ran on a voluntary basis by a live-in miller.
