The Tjerkwerd Mill is a fairly modern windmill. It was built in 1924, to an American design. The mill is quite large, with a flight of 10 metres. There are only 53 U.S. Wind Engine based windmills remaining in the Netherlands, and only a small number of these are still in operation today, making the Tjerkwerd Mill a monument of great historic and cultural value. The Tjerkwerd Mill is currently owned and maintained by the Wunseradiel Monument Foundation.
