The Skarrenmoune was built in 188 by the Rypkema family, to drain the 60 hectare Rijpkema polder. The mill was also used as a small scale grain mill, and the original grindstones from the Skarrenmoune mill can be seen in the grounds of the neighbouring farm. The mill was restored in 1996. The mill was bought by the Penninga’s Mill Foundation in 2003. The Skarrenmoune is open to the public, and guided tours can be arranged upon request.
