The Lelie Mill, or ’Donkey Mill’ in Rotterdam is a historic spice and snuff mill. It was built in 1740, and ran on wind power alone until 1921 when an electric motor was fitted. In 1970, extensive restoration work was carried out, and the mill’s drive was repaired. Since 1996 the mill has been ran on a voluntary basis, producing snuff and spices. The mill opens to the public on the 2nd Saturday of each month. Tours are also available on other days if the mill is running at the time.
