The ’Opzichterswoning bij Spaarndam’, or, ’Foreman House at Spaarndam’ is part of the defence line of Amsterdam. It was built in 1885, and is one of the few Foreman Houses of the era that is still in good condition. The foreman House is a fine example of Dutch architecture, and the defence line that it is a part of is a unique fortification – the only one in the world which uses control over water as a form of defence.
