The ’s Gravensteen building is a gothic building which was one a jail, and now serves as home to a maritime museum. The building itself is actually very interesting, even if you ignore the maritime exhibits that it now holds. There are some interesting writings on the walls, graffiti placed there by the prisoners several hundred years ago and preserved until very recently by the plaster which covered it over when the prison fell out of use.. The basement contains cages, and torture chambers.
