Spaarndam is a village with a long history, with the roots of the village dating back to the 13th century. The Oude Kerk, or Old Church, is located in the western part of Spaarndam. The church is one of the oldest buildings in the village. It was rebuilt after a fierce storm caused extensive damage. Near the church is an old-fashioned Hofje, and a picturesque, but no longer used, harbour.
