The Ophovenermolen was built in 1716. It was originally used as a corn mill. The mill was a part of the estate of the Dukes of Gulik for several centuries, and the residents of Sittard, Broeksittard and Wehr were obliged to send a part of their hardvest to the mill. The Ophevenermolen is now owned by the Foundation Jacob Kritzraedt, and is used to generate electricity. Each year, the mill produces around 100,000kWh, which is enough to power 33 average households.
