The Kunsthal is an unusual building, constructed from a mix of glass, brick, and corrugated iron. The building has earned a lot of attention from critics, some of whom feel it is a masterpiece of modern construction, others an ill-thought-out eyesore. The Kunsthal does not house a permanent collection, instead playing host to major temporary exhibitions on a variety of subjects. The gallery café is located on what is commonly though of as the more aesthetically pleasing side of the building, and offers a good view of the park, and the gallery itself.
