The original Fatum mill was built during the 18th century, but the one that stands there today is much more modern. In 1914, the old mill was destroyed during a storm, and the current mill was built to take its place. The Fatum mill served a 180 hectare section of the Fatumerpolder until 1968, when it was closed for restoration purposes. The mill is now owned by the Franekeradeel County, and is open to the public.
