The De Hoop Mill was built in 1863 by the mill-maker Scharmer of Groningen. In 1895, the mill was moved to a new location, and it was moved again in 1911 to serve a different polder. The mill was decommissioned in 1961, when a mechanical pump took over the duty of the Roodkerkerpolder. The mill is now owned by the Fryske Mill Foundation, and is open to the public. Tours of the mill are available by appointment.
