The De Groot Mill was built during the early 17th century to serve the Schellinghout polder. In 1914, the mill was decommissioned when a new pumping station was built to take over the husbandry of the polder. In 1930 the mill was converted to a dwelling. The West Frisian Mill Foundation bought the mill in 1979, and by 1981 it had been restored and put back into active use. The mill is now inhabited by a voluntary miller.
