The Bovenmolen E was built in 1635, along with several other polder mills which served the Schermer Polder. The mills were operated in groups on a four-stair system to drain water from the polder. The mills were closed down in 1926, but were re-opened during the Second World War. In 1969, the Bovenmolen E was restored, and since then the mill has been ran on a regular basis. Tours of the mill are available by appointment.
