The Museum ’t Behouden Huys on Terschelling is devoted to the history of the island. The museum covers all aspects of Tershelling’s history, and exhibits include maps of the old coastline, which show the crucial placement of the island. There are also a number of photographs and items from the old whaling fleet, and a tribute to explorer Willem Barents, who survived an entire winter in the Arctic after his ship was trapped by pack ice.
