The Windmotor 8 in Nijetrijne is one of several watermills serving the town. The Windmotor 8 is an average-sized wind mill, with 12 wind sheets, and a flight of 5 metres. The mill is a ’U.S. Wind Engine’ – this design found popularity during the first half of the 20th century, and is a common sight in the Friesland region. The area surrounding the Windmotor 8 forms part of the Rottige Meenthe nature reserve.
