Valkhof Palace is a large complex of chapels and related buildings which was constructed in the 8th century. It was rebuild in 1155 by Frederick Barbarosa, and was a central part of Nejmegen up until 1769, when the palace was taken apart and the stonework sold. Much of the rest was destroyed during French occupation in 1796, but what remains can be seen in Valkhof Park, and offers an interesting insight into the history of the town.
