The Zilvermeeuw mill was built in 1870 for the Waterboard Association. The mill served the large nearby polder – an area of around 613 hectares. The mill was one of two polder mills built by J. Klippus of Bedum. The other mill was destroyed in a fire in 1967. The Zilvermeeuw was not given an official name until 1951. The mill was restored in 1971, and is now owned by the Husingo Mill Foundation. Tours of the mill are available by appointment only.
