The Westermolen was built 1854 to serve the two polders of ’Oosterpolder’ and the ’United Raaksmaats and Niedorperkoggeboezem’. The mill was in use until the late 1960s, when it was decommissioned because of its poor condition. An electric pump, and a backup steam pump, took over the duties of the mill. It was restored in 1975, and since then has been ran on a regular basis as a backup mill. The Westermolen is open to the public.
