The Weijert Mill was originally built in the town of Gorredijk, but was moved to Makkinga in 1925. It is an unusual mill, with a square base, and large sales with a flight of 19.1 metres. The mill is named after Weyert Zeephat, the original miller. It was after his death, at the age of 97, that the mill was moved to Makkinga. The Weyert mill is currently ran on a voluntary basis, and is open to the public every Saturday morning.
