The Swallow Mill is a traditional corn mill located on Grote Molenstraat in the town of Niewe Pekela. The mill was built in 1891. It is a ’stellingmolen’ with one flock grindstone. A stellingmolen is a very tall mill, with high sails, and a walkway around the centre of the mill. The walkway is known as a ’stelling’, and is used by the miller so that he can safely reach the sails to perform maintenance work. The mill was restored in 2001, and is now ran by Mr. H A Pot. Tours are available by appointment.
