The ’Stijve Molen’ or, ’Stiff Mill’ was built in 1665, to replace an older mill that was in a state of serious disrepair. At the time of it’s construction, the Stiff Mill was one of several mills on the Middelbroek polder. The mill was decommissioned in 1949, and stood idle for many years before being restored by SIMAV (The Foundation for the Conservation of Mills in the Alblasserwaard and Vijfheerendlanden). The mill was almost entirely rebuilt in the 1970s, and had further maintainance work performed in 1987.
