The Phenix Water Mill was built in 1845 by J. T Kingma of Tenaard. The original mill was quite large, with a flight of around 20 meters. In 1961, the mill was struck by lightning, and almost totally destroyed. It was re-built in 1917, to a new design with even larger sails. The Phenix Mill is now owned by the Fryske Mill Foundation, and is open to the public. Guided tours of the mill are available upon request.
