The Peilmolen was built in 1818. It was sold to the Foundation for the Conservation of Mills in the Alblasserwaard and Vijfheerenlanden for a token fee of 1 Guilder in 1968. The foundation purchased the mill with the intention of restoring it, and they now operate the mill on a voluntary basis. The Peilmolen originally served a 630 hectare polder in partnership with the Slikkelandse Mill. The Slikkelandse mill was demolished in 1926, when a motorised pump took over husbandry of the polder.
