The North Mill was built in 1878 to manage the 791 hectare polder ’The Noord’, to the northeast of Texel. The mill was in use until 1923, when it was closed down because of its deteriorating condition. In 1928 the mill was destroyed by mill-maker A. J. Dekker of Leiden. In 1970 the ownership of the mill was transferred to The Dutch Mill Foundation, and more restoration work was performed. Today, The North Mill is in good working order, and is open to the public.
