The Great Mill was built in 1845 by J. T. Kingma. The mill was responsible for the 775 hectare Marrum Westernijtjerk polder until 1975, when it was decommissioned and replaced by a steam powered pump. The Mill was bought by the Frykse Mill Foundation in 1976, and restored in 1978. The Great Mill can regularly be seen in operation, and is open to the public. Tours of the mill are available upon request.
