The Balkendsterpoldermolen is an historic polder mill located on Langedijk in the town of Oude Lieje. Polder mills were used to pump water out of large areas of flat land, which were protected from the sea by a network of dikes. A large percentage of the inhabitable land in the netherlands has been reclaimed from the sea in this way. The Balkendsterpoldermolen is owned by the Fryske Mill Foundation, and is in very good condition.
